Fashion, you’ll be happy to hear, is getting closer and closer to normal. In the Spring/Summer 2022 men’s fashion run, there were more real-life shows than in the past two seasons put together. The designers were also happier, with most showing new creative energy that hadn’t been there before. There was also a lot more interesting clothing on show than the stuff that walked the digital and physical (sorry) runways of the past few years. This is why, here at British GQ, we’ve spent the last few weeks narrowing down the most important trends for the upcoming season so that when spring 2022 comes around, you’ll be able to buy and dress well. When it comes to clothes without sleeves, we have you covered. We also have cut-out vests on the rise. Mens Summer Fashion 2022 Every Guy Should Try.

Oh, your coat isn’t a cardie.

Image may have things in it that you don’t know about People wear clothing called sleeves. Justice Smith Footwear Shoe and Michael Tinsley are two people who work for the company.
From top to bottom: Jil Sander, Hermès, Prada, Erdem, and Dunhill.
As a British person, you’ll know that most days in this country it’s almost too warm for a coat and too cold for a T-shirt. It’s the price we pay for living on an island that is controlled by the Gulf Stream, people. It’s a good thing that this season, the world’s best menswear designers came up with a great idea: making coats out of cardies.

You can’t go wrong with cardigan coats! Coats that are actually cardigans, or “heavy-knit cardigans,” as they are also called.

Dunhill and Jil Sander were the best places to find nana cards that looked good with sharp two-piece suits, and at Jil Sander, pastel colors were the order of the day. Issey Miyake sweatpants can be worn with a cardigan for a long day working from home or thrown on over a suit.

Our talk about the sleeveless trend has been going on for a long time now, so please forgive us if we start again.

Prada and Marni started to show sweater vests that looked good. Later, Riccardo Tici dedicated his whole men’s collection to the power of a bare bicep, which we first learned about when a lot of other designers started to show sweater vests.

This year, the trend has gone into overdrive. Sleeveless knits were seen at Erdem and Paul Smith, smart waistcoat styles were worn with nothing else at Courrèges and Giorgio Armani, and tailored sleeveless jackets and biker jackets were big at Burberry, where the trend was at its strongest.

It’s time for skirts, tunics, skorts, and so many other kinds of clothes!

GQ has always thought that men should be able to show off their legs (and their smalls, if they want to) as much as women.

Finally, it looks like the world’s menswear world is following suit.

The Spring/Summer 2022 season was a good time for a lot of different brands to get in on the dress-wearing men’s trend. Kid Cudi, A$AP Rocky, Ezra Miller, and Harry Styles are just a few of the men who wore dresses.

When it came to Burberry and Prada, short micro-skirts were the thing. When it came to Fendi and Rick Owens, long, gown-like tunics were all the rage! If you plan on wearing your own skirt, kilt, tunic or tabard next summer, well, go for your life, because you’ve only got one.

They’re suits, but not as you know them

It’s not a secret that the way we dress for work has changed for good. A grey sharkskin two-piece wore with a shirt five days a week used to be the only thing that mattered. Now even the most strict dress codes are starting to loosen up.

It’s not surprising, then, that the brands that have always put tailored clothes at the heart of their seasonal offerings have completely changed their approach to “the suit” for SS22. For the most part, they’ve made easy-to-wear two-pieces that can be worn on the couch as well as in an office or on a quick trip to the corner store.

In the looks from Hermès, Dries van Noten, and Tod’s, three-button suits in light cotton and linen had a low-key appeal. The two-piece suits with shirt jackets instead of blazers shown at Giorgio Armani, Homme Plissé I.S.E. Miyake, and Fendi were also right on the money, which is important because they won’t be cheap.

All the people are the same.

In this picture, there are Canali, Qasimi, Moschino, Etro, Dolce & Gabbana, Casablanca, Fendi and Dries van Noten.
It turns out that the world’s most important menswear designers don’t like grey marl, navy toweling, and black jersey as much as we do. It could be seen on the runways in London, Milan, and Paris, where there was a lot of color.

Fendi, Casablanca, and Louis Vuitton all had oversized intarsia T-shirts with rainbow patterns that dripped down the sides.

They also had hooded safari jackets made of the best leathers, which had hoods.

Dolce & Gabbana and Moschino used bright patterns inspired by Italian summers to make suits,

while Etro and Hermès used degradé fruit salad sweet colors to make sweaters that were a lot of fun to wear.

Big shorts are worn by  Big shorts!

People from Dries van Noten to Ermenegildo Zegna to Fendi to Issey Miyake to Wooyoungmi to Paul Smith to Casablanca to Dior to Rick Owens to Louis Vuitton to Hermès are on the list.

This year, short shorts were all the rage on the TikTok app. You can look up the “five-inch short rule” for more information. We hope that in 2022, the oversized Bermuda short will be all the rage on the app.

If you want to see the best examples of the “big billowing shorts” trend, you should check out Hermès, nature element, Zegna, and Wooyoungmi, where the shorts were cut from the best leathers, and Fendi and Zegna, where the shorts were cut from crisp mohairs and twills and paired with overshirts and suit jackets in the same colors.

The revival of the funereal tailoring style.

If you look at number 4, you can see that tailoring has changed a lot this year. But that doesn’t mean that we won’t need to dress up from time to time in our new world, which is a lot more casual. All of the designers who sent out straight black tailoring as part of their Spring/Summer 2022 collections are going to be happy about this news.

To start their shows, Virgil Abloh and Kim Jones both wore tailored black suits at Louis Vuitton and Dior, two of the most stable guy ropes in LVMH’s tent. Jones showed off a black overcoat cut to the house’s strict Tailleur Oblique block at the latter, while at the first, he showed off a black wraparound suit that spoke to the garment interplay in the collection.

Other than that, the likes of Mark Weston at Dunhill, Paul Smith, and Dolce & Gabbana all wore perfectly cut black suits. None of them, however, wore shirts or ties with them (which is exactly the way in which you should wear yours).

Make room for a big shirt.

Light, easy, floaty, and breezy. Make sure you buy a super-light shirt if you buy anything new next summer. We’re going to have years of record-breakingly hot summers because of the climate crisis. One of Dior or Dries van Noten’s oversized tunic shirts will not only keep you cool, but it will also reduce the amount of clothing waste that goes into the world’s landfills, which is a good thing.

Cut-out tops? So, get some things.

From top to bottom: Rick Owens, Burberry, Courregés, Y-Project, Loewe, and so on.
There has been a lot of talk this year about the return of Courregés thanks to designer Nicolas Di Felice. The designer not only gave the brand a new look for SS22, but he also showed a series of vests with holes cut out of them, which were a big hit on Instagram.

A lot of well-known designers, like Riccardo Tisci for Burberry and Jonathan Anderson for Loewe, did the same thing at the recent SS22 show run. This means that you, too, should be getting in on the mega moth-eaten look before you can say “giant cedar balls.”

As a result of the many lockdowns, we all wore more slippers. Or, maybe it’s because LVMH recently bought Birkenstock and gave comfort over fashion the platinum seal of approval. Either way, most of the big-name designers have gone crazy for the ultra-comfort-focused sandal flex for Spring/Summer 2022.

Many tunic-clad models at Dries van Noten wore sandals that looked like pillows. At Dior, cashmere socks and shearling-lined sandals were on the feet of Kim Jones’ models. At Tod’s, driving shoes were replaced by hiking sandals that looked like they could have been found at Tevas.

Right: Rhude, Hermès, Louis Vuitton, Dolce & Gabbana, Moschino, Dior, and Burberry are some of the brands that make clothes for women.
There are a lot of people at British GQ who are in favor of the return of varsity. Ivy League sweaters (Go Bears!) and socks with shiny penny shoes are two examples of proper preppy style that just feel right now.

In Paris and Milan, a lot of the designers put sporty takes on classic varsity jackets at the heart of their lines. Vuitton, Dior, and Moschino all made slimmed-down versions of the varsity jacket, which were originally called “letterman jackets” because of the school letters sewn on their fronts. Leather varsity jackets at Burberry were both sleeveless and angular. At Dolce & Gabbana, there were so many crazy patterns.

It’s the high-shine time!

Party clothes are back on the agenda, people. You only have to look at the super-shiny lamé, satin, and moire silk tailoring at Dolce & Gabbana, Moschino, Etro, and other high-end brands. You don’t want to hurt your eyes. Dior and Loewe, on the other hand, have party suits that look more like pajamas than suits.
