Today I want to share with you some awesome mens fashion casual ideas for your next look! Are you ready? Let’s do this!
Having the ability and flexibility of the casual style can be a little overwhelming.
Most men will retreat into the basic outfit: what am I talking about?
jeans, t-shirt and a cool pair of sneakers.
But you will see later in this article that there are more interesting ways to spice up your casual look.
Understanding all of the style nuances can seem daunting which is why we decoded some of the most common dress codes for men (goodbye sartorial nightmares!), starting with the most casual and working our way up to the most formal.
This article is part of a style series covering the 5 essential dress codes men can be required to wear:
Welcome to our 2019 casual look guide for the modern man. We’ve broken down this guide into several sections. You can skip to the part that’s most important to you right now if you want.
Not a specific dress code per se, Casual wear is loosely defined as “anything traditionally considered inappropriate for more formal occasions.”
Casual wear is relaxed, with the right amount of elegance and laid back and suited for everyday use. Casual clothes typically blend personal comfort and individuality – since you have to mix and match different garments to create your unique look.
Experiment and discover what works best for you. You can, quite literally, wear what you want (except maybe if you are thinking of running errands in your couch potato wear).
If there are no strict rules and few limits, there still are style guidelines for Casual clothes worn outside of the privacy of your home, however.
Whether you choose to keep it simple or are feeling a little adventurous, Casual can be interpreted slightly differently depending on the situation and venue. This leaves you with the difficult task of figuring out what to wear to find the sweet spot between overdressed and underdressed.
When in doubt, you should always subscribe to the golden rule that it’s always better to be overdressed than to be underdressed whatever the occasion maybe
Many men approach their casual style from the wrong view; they aim to look youthful.
But if you want to look well-dressed, you should always aim to look mature and classic.
Because maturity is an attractive quality in men. Maturity, after all, is what separates the men from the boys. Maturity shows masculinity and commands respect, and it’s a quality and awesome way you want people to see in you.
That doesn’t mean you have to dress like your dad or an old man.
It doesn’t mean you have to dress old. It just means you have to avoid portraying yourself as a teenager… Unless you actually are a teenager or a kid.
Just to be clear, that means…
You want to dress like a grown-up or an old man. Everything overly flashy and classic like the items pictured here simply become inappropriate past certain age.
Funny or cartoony tees are a definite no-go. Wearing a funny or cartoony tee is basically like being the guy that makes the same joke over and over and over. It might be funny the first time you see the t-shirt, but it gets old fast and fades away. Also, avoid anything with slogans.
You want to avoid looking like someone who hasn’t grown up yet — someone who’s stuck in his past.
You want to stop looking like a boy or a kid, and dress like a man.
Don’t worry though, I’ll give you some more tips and guildlines on how to do so. Starting with
The most important thing you should do to shed your boyish or kid look is giving up your graphic Tees.
I know you really love them. In fact, I wore them non-stop.
But you want to stop wearing them. You have so many better options.
Despite popular belief, they don’t make you look funny, edgy or original. In fact, because every other guy is sporting a graphic tee too, you’ll just blend into the crowd.
Plus, many people associate them with guys who do not want to grow up. (Remember tip #1? You don’t want that.)
Just look at the movies. You’ll never see a tough, masculine action hero or a suave rom-com heartthrob wearing a graphic tee. The only time you’ll see a graphic tee is when the character is either a man-child, an actual child, or a slacker.
You don’t want people to see you as a man-child, do you? Then be a man, and stop wearing graphic tees and funny shirts.
Instead, opt for solid, one-color t-shirts, striped tees or henleys. Just look at these examples:
You might also consider wearing polo shirts or casual shirts. Just because you’re dressing casual doesn’t mean you can’t wear a collar.
And a simple white or nice classic shirt looks great with a pair of dark blue jeans, which I’ll cover in the next section of this list
What about the less formal nights out, or day looks that work outside the office?
Trying to put these ensembles together can seriously stump many otherwise fashion forward men. If this sounds like you, this guide should help you in those moments of doubt.
Men should have certain staples easily at hand. There are just certain, timeless pieces that every man should own and be able to pull from the closet even at the last minute and still look put together.
First, don’t disregard the power of quality jeans and tee shirt. There are definite rules and measures here, though. Those baggy, clever tee shirts with exciting sayings and cartoon characters? Those are best left as pajamas, or better yet, back in the bedroom room where they belong.
Matured men can definitely pull off the tee shirt vibe but stick with solid and awesome colors or solid with thin horizontal stripes in a contrasting color. Avoid vertical stripes; they often read more “soccer or football ref” than fashion-forward. Add a little edge with a fitted henley or v-neck cut.
Jeans should not be soo costive, but they should be authentic, not likely to be found at the same big-box store you buy your automotive tools and laundry detergent. Invest soo much in quality and authentic pairs and keep them looking fantastic and nice by keeping them stain-free.
Also do avoid excessive over washing of them, which could cause quality and authentic pigment you paid for to fade away quickly. Stick to zero-logo designs and leave the flared, baggy styles for children at the park.
