The essential three stages — cleanse, treat, and moisturize — will remain the same, but the nighttime process will be slightly modified.

Remove the day’s makeup and dirt first. Start by removing any cosmetics with a different makeup remover if necessary. “Cleansers aren’t necessarily designed to dissolve makeup, especially on the eyes,” explains GH Beauty Lab Senior Chemist Sabina Wizemann. “They haven’t done so effectively in our trials.” Working from the interior of the face up, then out and down along the hairline and periphery to just beneath the chin, she recommends using the same cleanser as in the morning.

Toner (#2)

If you choose to use a toner, do it in the same manner as you would in the morning. Toners should be applied before heavier products like serums and moisturizers because they are liquids and need time to absorb.

3. Treatment or serum
